Watch out for Fire Season!

13761608264?profile=original

As spring season approaches and temperatures start to rise, California's fire season is coming in hot.

Most fires happen from April to October but with our state's diverse landscape and weather changes, it has become almost year-round. In recent years, California has experienced some of its most devastating wildfires, which is why we want to increase awareness and preparedness efforts across the coastside community.

For residents, this means taking proactive steps to protect our homes and families. This includes maintaining space around properties, creating evacuation plans, and staying informed about local fire conditions and orders.

Fire agencies and emergency responders are also ramping up their efforts, conducting training exercises, and implementing new technologies to better respond to wildfires. Additionally, community outreach programs and partnerships with organizations like the Pacific Resource Center aim to educate and support residents in fire-prone areas.

If you see a wildfire, immediately alert the local authorities and get to safer grounds. Let's stay vigilant and prepared to protect our homes, community, and landscape of the coastside community from the threat of wildfires.

Pacifica Pier Closing

13761607886?profile=original

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER DATED

DATED JANUARY 4rh 2024 (Pacifica, CA) –

The Pacifica Pier will be closed for 3 weeks from
January 5th, 2024, to January 26th, 2024.

On December 28, 2023, a combination of high tides and large waves damaged sections of
the Pacifica Municipal Pier’s west-facing deck and concrete railing. The City’s Public Works
Engineering Division and a structural engineering consultant assessed the damage and
determined the Pier is unsafe for users and visitors until a structural assessment can be
performed.

An expedited structural assessment of the Pier, development of the analysis, staff review, and
finalization of the assessment is expected to be completed by January 25, 2024. Following the
assessment, the City will determine if the Pier can be reopened.

Should you have any questions or concerns, you can contact the Department of Public Works
Engineering Division at (650) 738-3767 or email engineering@pacifica.gov. Thank you for your
cooperation, and your patience while the City works diligently to ensure the Pier is safe and
can continue to be an important public amenity.

Mori Point

13761610269?profile=original

Spring is right around the corner so if you are looking for a new place to explore, check out Mori Point.

Mori Point is located in Pacfica down the coast next to San Francisco, showcasing stunning views of the coast and beautiful flowers. It is a great place to enjoy the sunset or simply watch the waves of the Pacific washing onto the shores. Mori Point also features a hiking trail called Peak Loop Trail where visitors can see the restored native plants and wildlife. On a clear sunny day, visitors can also see the Golden Gate Bridge at the peak overlooking Pacifica. At the end of the trail, you can walk down Sharp Park Beach to enjoy the scenery.

Mori Point won’t be what it is today without its community involvement. Proposals in the past were unsuccessful as Pacifica residents opposed the idea of a casino or a hotel being built. With community involvement and restoration, the site now displays freshwater ponds featuring California red-legged frogs and San Francisco garter snakes that are currently endangered species.

We all know someone who has been affected by the current housing crisis. Too
many neighbors, childhood friends, teachers, and other people important to us
have left our Pacifica community due to limited housing options and high housing
costs.

The City of Pacifica's Planning Department is leading an
update to the Housing Element of the City’s General Plan to help address these
issues.

The Housing Element will plan for more housing in Pacifica for people at all
income levels, and identify other steps the City can take to address housing
affordability and access to quality housing.

Please join us and your neighbors at an upcoming community meeting to discuss
where new housing should be located. We need your input on strategies the City
can use to plan for nearly 2,000 new housing units over the next eight years.
Visit PlanPacifica.org to learn more about the Housing Element update and to
register for an upcoming community meeting.
