SUPPORT COMMUNITY MEDIA!!

WHAT:

OFIRST TIME in 15 years by the California Public Utilities Commission (which regulates cable)  is listening to the COMPLAINTS of CABLE CUSTOMERS. Many of YOU CALLED IN by phone to give your FEEDBACK!

NOW:

Now we're asking our community to write to the commission to demand that the Nation's oldest Community Media Center be seen on the HD spectrum of cable!

WHY:

Currently, your Community Media TV (AKA P.E.G. TV channel) is NOT being seen on the HD tier of Cable! Even worse, Cable companies like COMCAST and AT&T make it HARD to even FIND the P.E.G. channels. (P.E.G. stands for Public, Education, and Government TV).

WHAT TO SAY:

All you have to do is write a short NOTE to the P.U.C. and say the following:

  • PEG channels MUST be supported financially. Every Cable Company is charged PEG fees for the purpose of supporting PEG channel activity. It is VITAL that these funds are used for the purpose they were intended, to support PEG channel activities. They must go to these uses and not be redirected by Cable companies, cities, or any other entities.
  • My local Community Channel is Pacific Coast TV (PCT)  is currently being displayed on cable via outdated quality, even though PCT delivers our programming in high definition resolution.
  • This makes it HARD to find my local TV channel because both our local providers (ATT and Comcast) effectively hide our local channel from view.
  • When I can find the channel, the image is COMPLETELY SUBSTANDARD.
  • According to state law, community PEG channels are required to be delivered to subscribers in the same format as every other station. A Cable company should not downgrade the channel signal quality of community channels.

HOW TO WRITE IN:

Go to www.cpuc.ca.gov/docket and enter R.23-04-006 in the "Proceeding Number Search" field. Once you find it, click on the public comment tab to enter your thoughts about the importance of getting PCT onto HD!

NOTE:

  • PEG channels like PCT play a crucial role in government transparency efforts by covering local government meetings and proceedings. They are vital sources of local news and civic engagement and played a critical role in the COVID pandemic by delivering hyper-local government, public health, public safety and educational information.
  • The deliberately substandard treatment of PEG channels represents serious harm to California customers. The Commission should address it as part of the customer service requirements it adopts.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT of PCT, YOUR COMMUNITY MEDIA VOICE!

Hello friends!
We need your immediate help to ensure that AB2635, the bill that would require High Definition PEG channels, passes through the CA Assembly and onto the Senate.
While we were successful getting the bill through two Assembly committees, when it went to the floor on May 2nd it failed to get enough votes and was pulled for reconsideration. Only 18 members voted yes, 18 voted no, and 41 members DID NOT VOTE.  Why? Because the cable industry is feeding them lies.
The cable industry says that having PEG channels in HD would cause cable rates to go up because new fiber lines would need to be built statewide, HD transmission equipment would cost large amounts of money, and there would be a monthly cost to transmit HD signals. This is all outrageous, but the cable industry is going to get away with it unless we act NOW!
Here’s what you can do:

1. Call your Assembly Member and encourage strong support for AB2635.  Here's the contact info and how each member voted on May 2nd: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rI2cnR_ILAOricaeW4r2tlm0bAaFDVWQ/view?usp=sharing
2. Send an email to Assembly Members using Media Alliance's "Take Action" page. This page has helpful "Facts vs Myths" for dispelling the cable industry lies. https://takeaction.salsalabs.org/AB2635MythFact/index.html
(Also, here's proof that HD PEG channels did not increase cable rates in Oregon: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bP7VZhWnroDNzkdNRE6ULfJLdbuPKmgW/view?usp=sharing)
3. Send this letter of support to your Assembly Member and the persons listed at the top of the letter. Encourage other elected officials or government officials to send the letter also.
We all will benefit if AB2635 passes… but we need your support NOW!

8234075456?profile=originalPacific Coast TV highlights different events and organizations located in the coast side in order to bring awareness to local issues and ideas.

The Coastside Youth Council (CYC), a program through the Youth Leadership Institute, is a group of youth leaders in Half Moon Bay between the ages of 15-20 who organize community activities for other youth.

One of their goals is to prevent underage drinking and to reduce the messages of alcohol in the Coastside area. They've researched local convenience stores in the area as well as the famous HMB Pumpkin Festival to bring awareness to underage drinking as well as alcoholism in their community.  They also advocate for smoke free communities, especially in housing for low income families.

They give students opportunities to become leaders in their community and gain experience that will help them apply to college and in all their future endeavors.

For youth interested in joining, they meet

every Friday from 4-6pm at the

Ted Adcock Community Center, 535 Kelly Avenue Half Moon Bay, CA 94019.

They also have paid internship opportunities. Please contact Montzerrat Garcia at mbedolla@yli.org or (714) 579-9070 for more information.

8234074855?profile=originalBob Chandler is a rare personality. He is a professional historian. For over three decades he lead Wells Fargo in the discovery and preservation of the company’s rich history. In the process, he has uncovered much of the fabric of the Old West. He will share some of the chapters of history within Wells Fargo – their famous stagecoach service, their place in California’s gold rush, and development of its banking business. Dr. Chandler writes and speaks with authority on such diverse historical subjects as early express transport, banking, politics, civil rights, stamp collecting, and more.

Chandler, Wells Fargo Bank’s senior research historian for 32 years, will elucidate why and how Wells Fargo did business.  Using displayed historical documents, the speaker will illustrate the ways Wells Fargo performed its Banking, Express, Letter Express, and Stagecoaching activities. He reports that he will be bringing a mini-museum along for the meeting.

As wife Susan says, “He finds a ‘leaf’ and then must determine where it fits on the tree of history.”  His San Francisco Lithographer: African American Artist Grafton Tyler Brown (2014) illustrates his deductive method. He has also written a short history of California, the Arcadia series volume on Wells Fargo, and more than 60 articles on Gold Rush, Civil War California, and early western transportation.  Exceedingly serious, Bob is an X-Noble Grand Humbug of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus. His Mother's family is from the Madeira Islands (by way of Hawaii) making Bob half-Portuguese – sharing some of the roots of our Coastside community.

Want to know more? Watch Bob Chandler as he leads discussion all about the history of Wells Fargo.

The big premiere is January 29 at 7 PM only on Pacific Coast TV, Comcast Channel 26/27 Half Moon Bay and Coastside.

Soundwaves Christmas Special!

The Soundwaves Christmas special is finally here! Soundwaves is an annual music-based variety fundraiser that encourages viewers to contribute to local non-profits and charities.  This special fundraiser helps the viewer donate to local charities to help benefit the community! The energy of the show is fast and entertaining, but the message is simple: spend less money on needless holiday gifts and give that money to someone who truly needs it.

8234074457?profile=originalHere’s how it works: viewers are directed to soundwaveschristmas.com, where they can choose a geographical area and make a contribution.  No money is collected by the creators of the show or the administrators of the web site.  Every link to a charity connects directly to the volunteer or donation page of that charity’s website.

Never Too Late to Donate!

By Leo Li

Telethon is a special event that occurs over two days. This year, it will take place on November 21st and 22nd. The program will be televised with more than 80,000 local viewers watching, even more if you count the webstreamers! Why should you partake in this special event? Here are some points about the telethon that will make you go, why not?

This is an opportunity for you to showcase who you are for a very small feat. By simply donating an auction item, you can be seen, on TV, for your product, your business, and the embodiment of your organization’s essence. The more items you donate, the more valuable airtime you will receive, making your business known not only to locals, but also to those watching from all over world, international audiences who are planning to visit the Bay Area!

Our process for this whole auction is so simple that you do not even have to leave your store to successfully make the transaction. Simply tell us what you want to donate, and we will fill out a gift certificate form for you, email the copy back, and give the original certificate to the winner of the auction item to exchange at your location. “No hassle” is an understatement. If you choose to use your own gift cards or certificates, that is perfectly fine with us. The point of this auction is to point the spotlight at you and give back to our community.

Hurry with the donations, time is running short and spots are filling up! Tell us what you want to donate, and we will handle the rest of it for you. You can put your trust in Pacific Coast Television to promote your business and make your name known all the way from Pacifica, Half Moon Bay, San Mateo and down to Pescadero!

Give Martin Anaya a call at 650-355-8001!

Help your business and community today!
