Hi everyone!

I would like to invite you all to our New Media 101 workshop. I am very eager to  help our community members become more media savvy by introducing them to our website and all of its amazing features.

8234056267?profile=original

The workshop will be divided into two parts -

8234056072?profile=originalPart 1
is where I will teach students the very basics of our website interface.

Students will be able to:

  • create a log in/become a member
  • personalize their page
  • and learn how to connect their PCT page to twitter, Facebook, or google+.

Part 2 gets a little more in depth with blogging. Blogging is a very powerful tool. This is a good way to get a message across to a wide range of viewers. In Part 2, I will show students how to add videos and pictures to make their blogs sizzle and pop. We will also go over effective strategies on how to get their blog posts seen. Sound like fun?

8234056492?profile=originalPlease join me at PCT on Saturday, September 14th for this exciting, day long new workshop!

.

I hope to see many new and familiar faces. I can't wait! =)

New Year, New Vision for PCT

New Year, New Vision for Pacifica

by Martin Anaya

Happy New Year from your friends at Pacifica Community TV. Over the past year we've seen some amazing things in our world as well as some concerning things with the economy and such.

At PCT, despite the city cutting our 2012 contract in half, we've seen a continued provision of services and some amazing enhancements. In fact, to say that we've learned to leverage our resources is an understatement for sure. For example, now residents have multiple ways they can view programs from PCT; on cable channel 26 as always, on-line at our website (www.PacificCoast.tv) and now by Video on Demand, also found on our website!

In addition, we are now training members of our community to use video in exciting new ways. Businesses use video to communicate the value of their brand, community groups use it to outreach to potential new friends and our wonderful community of TV producers can now expand their audience to a world-wide audience literally at the click of a button.

Here's what is SUPER EXCITING:  We are now using new communication platforms to engage audiences far beyond our borders on the value of visiting Pacifica. This new capability could be an economic development committee's biggest tool. Wait, are you listening economic development committee? What we are engaged in right now is a communications explosion at PCT that is already showing world-wide audiences why they should visit our town and why they should spend their hard earned dollars here.

Let's face it: as we look to the future we are all going to have to leverage our resources to create new revenue for the city. And just like the city manager said in last week's Trib, that means using people power and exciting new approaches. Well, here at PCT we have laid an exciting new groundwork for using new communications technology the right way to achieve astonishing goals. And when I say the right way, I mean just that. These days it's relatively easy to post a home-made You-Tube video and say they are "potentially" reaching a world-wide audience. But how does one truly ENGAGE an audience? How does one use the right technology and the right approach for the right result? This is what we have begun teaching local residents and businesses at PCT.

We are now helping local businesses for instance to leverage their visibility in several key ways using video as the backbone. The key is audience "engagement". What do we mean by that? It means using video as a method to open a dialog with your audience. In fact, it means that your audience is really more of an inter-active partner in the success of your business or city or entity. This brings an entire new dimension to the equation and not only benefits the participating business but our wider community as well.

As we search for new ways to market Pacifica as an Eco-tourist destination or as a place to raise a family, one thing is clear: we must use new tools and methods to engage audiences in new ways. This will yield new results and stand as a stark contrast to the "business-as-usual" approach used by so many. As we increase Pacifica's relevance to the wider world we will begin to see a new self-identity emerge that translates directly to improved finances and improved quality of life. So welcome 2013! I'm eager to explore what the future holds. If you would like to learn more about this vision I've just painted and how you may get involved, please contact me, Martin at PCT, 650-355-8001 or by email at

Babyface Boxing Pacifica

Blanca Gutierrez participates as head coach of Babyface Boxing, and encourages people of all ages to join. She currently has classes for both children and adults. However, her gym is known as a place for kids in the community to learn and grow as athletes and family. They joke around, do homework, and then get in the ring to throw down! You can feel their connection to each other in minutes. If you're looking for a place where you or your child can exercise and build relationships with the people around them, then Babyface is your best bet.

Blanca Gutierrez's love of the game has no doubt been passed down to her by her father, the late Babyface Gutierrez, whom made his way to the United States by boxing. Her strong family ties seem to have shaped the atmosphere of her gym. She has also established herself in the boxing world by creating the first all female boxing event in California.

Babyface is a great place for anyone who wants to feel the burn. Boxing is a great supplement to your average workout. Let's be honest, doing the same old workout can get really boring after a while. Why not mix it up and start hitting the bag? Plus boxing is a great way to learn self defense techniques. This is the chance to gain the mental and physical strength you've always dreamed of. Not to mention the confidence you'll take away from it. And hey, you never know what the future holds, but maybe...just maybe, with a little hard work, its a championship belt.

Free Tastings at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company!

If you're in Half Moon Bay on a Tuesday, come check out Half Moon Bay Brewing Company!
Known for its waterfront views and picturesque small town feel, Half Moon Bay draws visitors from far and wide. Nestled coastside in downtown, Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is modern but cozy and family friendly. The restaurant/brewery brews its own beer using fresh hops, and their brand "Mavericks
amber ale won the Bronze for the 2012 World Beer Cup!

We chatted with Master Chef Gaston Alfaro about his background, cooking philosophy, and why he gives his weekly free tastings. For those who don't know, every Tuesday from 5-7 in the bar, Chef Gaston shares his latest creations for free. The Chef solicits individual feedback from customers to improve upon his sumptuous morsels of heavenly goodness--"It is not our taste buds, but theirs." He encourages his staff and customers to be open-minded about trying new things, and experimenting with different taste and flavor combinations. His specialty is cultural fusion, having worked with other chefs from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Chef Gaston is definitely a character--loyal patrons to the restaurant/brewery say he is known for his passionate and vivacious personality, eccentric fashion sense, and of course, his excellent food. We felt very welcomed by him and all the staff at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, and enjoyed the delicious unique creations from the Chef! My favorite was the dessert plate he made especially for us--beeramisu (exactly what it sounds like), strawberry cheesecake, and almond cheesecake. If you watch the video you'll see the large plate of appetizers he prepared for us!  We will be back for more, and strongly urge you to check it out for yourself! Another incentive to come Tuesday is that there's $3.50 pints all day!

Organic Pacifica

Pacifica is best known for its weather, surfing and scenery. But what about its local farmers market? Alemany,Lake Merriet and the sunset district all come to mind when I think of  good farmers markets. So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this tiny, but awesome farmers market ( less than 4 miles away from my house) nestled in Pacifica's Rockaway Beach shopping center.

Walking up to the entrance you are engulfed with the smells of fresh produce, roistering meats, and the sweet smell of baked goods. All the vendors greet you with a big smile and a story to tell about each and everyone of their organic locally traded and made foods. Within 10 minutes of being there, I knew where my strawberries I just bought were grown, who grew them, and what process they used to get them to be so delicious. The farmers market also included a live band, fresh fish, organic vegan sweets and TAMALES!. One more time in case you missed it TAMALES; Freshly made TAMALES!

Pacifica's farmers market is not  as big and well known as other farmers market around the bay and peninsula, however that just adds to its charm of being truly local made and supported. So the next time your passing Rockaway beach off of Highway one on a Wednesday afternoon, be sure to stop by Pacifica's farmers market for a little taste of organic locally made food.

Want to know more about whats going on in Pacifica and the peninsula like the local farmers market? Then tune into PCT for an inside look at some of the areas  local businesses, community activities and other fun things to do while in the area.

Also a special thanks to la Milpa organic farm ,Roli Roti, Fritter factory and  labelGMos.org for participating.
