Julie Roskoph Mell, Founder/ED of Beach Break Entertainment a fiscally sponsored nonprofit community organization founded by Julie in 2020 during the Covid-19 shutdown, with the motto of “Fueling Community with Story”. The heart of our mission was to connect our community—albeit in distanced format—by bringing us together via the medium of film in a time of crisis for so many. Beach Break Entertainment became a silver lining of the pandemic, when its outdoor film screenings provided a welcome opportunity for the Coastside community and beyond to enjoy a safe, coastal respite in the form of a nostalgic family or date night at a pop-up drive-in cinema experience. In addition, each film screening resulted in much-needed business for local restaurants and establishments, as well as contributions to local nonprofits.
Since 2022, Beach Break Entertainment has expanded to host the Beach Break Film Festival each December, and now—as then—our focus continues to be community-building and sustainability. To date, we have raised over $35,000 for local nonprofits including, among others, Coastal Repertory Theatre, Sea Hugger, Cabrillo Education Foundation, Farallone View Elementary School, and the Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School PTO.
