Tunitas Creek Beach is a hidden gem to the South of Half Moon Bay that due to it's secluded and challenging location, has been pretty badly polluted by visitors. Being such a long stretch of beach with a steep cliff at one end and long hike along and creek crossing at the other it makes collecting and removing trash and debris even more difficult. We need all hands on deck for our monthly clean-ups to keep this beach beautiful and its sea life safe and healthy. This is a great opportunity for groups of friends, families, co-workers, school groups, athletes, clubs to come together, have fun and really make a difference!
Where to meet / park:
park on Tunitas Creek Rd. - we will have a table set-up right on the road, so it will be easy to spot and will post the beach clean-up sign at the corner of Hwy 1 & Tunitas Creek Rd., so you will know where to turn (if you are mapping the address use 5600 Tunitas Creek Rd. that is the addy for the house on the corner).
What to bring:
change of socks/shoes or galoshes - this time of year the creek and lagoon on the beach have dried up slightly, but there are a couple of crossings to get through that may involve some wading; a change of socks/shoes is highly recommended.
We provide water, but ask that you bring a reusable bottle to fill-up. We also have buckets and gloves, hand sanitizer and sunscreen. New Leaf also provides bananas and one additional snack for our clean-ups.
Other considerations:
The clean-up itself runs from 10-12:30pm and then we sort and stage the trash for pick-up at the Hwy Entrance to the South until 1pm.
There are no age restrictions, however it is not recommended for toddler aged children or younger due to the challenging hike in, glass on the beach and other dangers.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There are NO facilities/bathrooms at Tunitas. The nearest bathrooms are in HMB proper (9mi North) or San Gregorio State Beach (6mi South)
