Do you live on the Coastside? Do you care about having cleaner creeks and beaches? In early October, the San Mateo Resource Conservation District (RCD) is having their annual First Flush community event. First Flush refers to the initial autumn rain falls and the “flushing” of accumulated pollutants from streets and landscapes into nearby waterways, storm drains, the ocean, etc.. The First Flush is a rare opportunity for scientists to gain a clear understanding of these pollutants and their impacts on the local environment.
The San Mateo RCD is looking for volunteers to help collect water samples at designated areas. No experience needed! There will also be an in-person practice run the morning of the event and an online training session. The water samples you collect at this event will be recorded and used in long-term data on our beloved coastside. Follow the San Mateo RCD @sanmateorcd on Instagram for information on future training sessions and the First Flush!
