Earth Day in Action: EcoFest 2026 Brings Community Together on the Coast

Every April, communities around the world celebrate Earth Day—but along the San Mateo County coast, action speaks louder than words.

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Pacific Beach Coalition will host its annual Earth Day of Action and EcoFest, a day-long event combining environmental service, education, and celebration at Pacifica State Beach in Linda Mar. (Pacific Beach Coalition)

From Cleanup to Celebration

The day begins with purpose.

Starting at 9 a.m., volunteers will spread out across more than 15 locations throughout San Mateo County to take part in coastal cleanups and habitat restoration projects. From beaches and creeks to neighborhood streets, participants will work to remove litter, restore ecosystems, and protect local wildlife. (Pacific Beach Coalition)

By late morning, the focus shifts from action to celebration.

From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., EcoFest transforms Pacifica State Beach into a vibrant, family-friendly festival featuring over 30 booths, interactive exhibits, and activities led by environmental organizations, scientists, and community groups. (Pacific Beach Coalition)

A Community Effort

EcoFest is more than just an event—it’s a collaboration.

The festival is co-sponsored by the City of Pacifica and brings together partners ranging from environmental nonprofits to local agencies and schools. Attendees can explore topics like clean energy, marine conservation, and waste reduction, all while engaging with hands-on activities designed for all ages. (Pacific Beach Coalition)

Whether it’s learning from a marine robotics team or connecting with local sustainability leaders, the event aims to make environmental education both accessible and inspiring.

Spotlight on Local Wildlife

Each year, EcoFest highlights a species that represents the region’s unique ecosystem.

In 2026, the spotlight is on the steelhead trout, a resilient fish that continues to spawn in nearby San Pedro Creek. Organizers hope the honoree will remind attendees of the importance of protecting local waterways and maintaining healthy habitats. (Pacific Beach Coalition)

Visitors will also have the opportunity to join naturalist-led tours and learn more about the connection between watershed health and wildlife survival.

Why It Matters

At its core, Earth Day EcoFest is about building a culture of environmental stewardship.

By combining hands-on volunteer work with education and community engagement, the event encourages participants to think beyond a single day of action. Organizers emphasize that small, everyday choices—like reducing waste, conserving energy, and supporting local ecosystems—can have a lasting impact. (Pacific Beach Coalition)

How to Get Involved

There are several ways to participate:

  • Volunteer at a cleanup or restoration site

  • Attend EcoFest and explore community booths

  • Support as a sponsor or partner

  • Take individual action through local sustainability efforts

With thousands expected to participate, EcoFest 2026 is set to be both a celebration and a call to action—reminding the Bay Area community that protecting the planet starts close to home.
